The World Bank is funding the large scale Mekong Delta Integrated Climate Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods (MD-ICRSL) Project for Vietnam. The development objective is to enhance the capacity to manage and adapt to climate change by improving planning, promoting resilient rural livelihoods, and constructing climate smart infrastructure in select provinces in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam.
One of the subprojects deals with establishing and environment center, Mekong Delta Center. The purpose of the center is to collect environmental data from stakeholders, manage it, use it for analysis and share it to all organizations who need it for informed plans or decisions related to dealing with impacts of climate change. The implementing agency is MONRE – Ministry Of Natural Resources and Environment. Kari Mikkonen has worked as ICT and GIS consultant for both the World Bank and for MONRE in drafting specifications and supervising implementation of information system for Mekong Delta Center.
